Peaceful Meadow Farm Stand - LIVE MUSIC this week!

On Top
All this new stuff goes on top
turn it over, turn it over
wait and water down
from the dark bottom
turn it inside out
let it spread through
Sift down even.
Watch it sprout.
A mind like compost.
~gary snyder
This poem came to mind recently as I watched steam drifting up from the compost pile outside of the goat barn.  Our goats live in a treehouse of sorts next to our house and their old bedding is piled underneath, the morning was frosty and I was wondering how the coming growing season would unfold.  That was back in May when the mornings here on the farm were still quite chilly making it hard to believe we could coax sprouts out of the cold soil. But like my mind after the calm, cool space of reflection, thoughts and sprouts inevitably arise out of the ever warming soil.
Many thanks to all of our friends who’ve toiled these past weeks helping to prepare the soil, plant the seeds, and weed the weeds!  All the hard work is starting to pay off and we’re excited to share this beautiful food with you all.
Our first Peaceful Meadow Farm Stand will be this Saturday, July 23rd from 4:30-8:30 p.m.  Please come out and join us for an evening of community, good food, mountain music and lots of sweet high mountain meadow farm produce.  Joining us for our first stand of the season is Nederland’s own No Go Gillbillies, a wonderful local bluegrass band.
News from the Farm: Lots of kids have been running around helping us this year, so thanks to Serafina, Ray, Jessie, Anyll, Mila, Col, Lila, Yeshe and the big kids as well, Barry, Christel and Harry!
We’ve spent many hours cleaning up the big barn and are excited to have a new stage area built with hay bale bleachers around the inside of the barn.
We’ve been constantly tweaking the fencing around the farm for our bigger animals.  The goats, as always, pose a special challenge since they LOVE to sneak out and eat whatever they can! But, I think we finally have them cozy and happy in their pen and pasture.  They share space with the hogs, Jampo and Shama, and love whatever attention (and treats) we can give them.  Please feel free to say hello to them when you visit, they love head scratches, and their names are Diego, Almonzo, Mani, and Rupi!   The hens are happy to be living close to the house and their chief protector, the rooster Flora (yes, we thought he was a she early on) is still as ornery as ever so keep an eye on him if you walk close to the flock! Our two llamas, Bella and Anemone, spend a lot of time up close with the chickens as well.  They’re sometimes a bit aloof, but Bella (the all brown girl) likes behind her neck scratched and they both love little treats. We’ll have some carrots in a bucket by the gate if you want to try feeding them on your way down to the farm.
Dogs - Dogs are more than welcome at PMF, but this year we have lots of animals running around (Llamas, Goats, Pigs, Chickens) so we're asking that dogs be kept on a leash while on the farm.
Our farm stand is Saturday, July 23rd, from 4:30-8:30 pm.   Come on by and enjoy some visitin' by the barn and some tasty raw treats while you shop for the most locally grown produce on Magnolia!
